Canadian Lake Fishing Adventure
July 6-10, 2010
We’ll be chasing Kamloops trout at the Alpine Wilderness Resort. Have you ever wanted to fish the fabled waters of British Columbia, Canada? Well, here is your chance. This trip is very special, as you will travel to the Bonaparte Plateau. The lakes are very high in elevation. It is one of the few places in July where the lakes don’t turn over and bloom. These lakes are inhabited by the legendary Kamloops trout, which fights like a steelhead and tastes like a salmon. There is no equal in the trout family. The Kamloops trout are all natural to these lakes. Many of the lakes in British Columbia are stocked with different kinds of fish not native to the area because they were originally barren.
The Elbow Lake chain is only ice free a few months of the year. The lakes experience little fishing pressure during the season, as there are fly-in lakes and there are only two small lodges in the area. You have the choice of six lakes to fish, each unique in its own way.
The trophy lake is where you are only allowed two fish and none under 18”.At the meat lake the fish are so plentiful they fight for your lure as it hits the water. This is where we get our fish to smoke.
The area is known for its superior fly-fishing, however lures are also used for the non-fly fisherman. This adventure will have a Wyoming fishing guide on the trip. Presently the cost for American plan (all meals) is about $1,000 for five days. Not included is the first night at a motel in Kamloops are tips and transportation there. There is an airport in Kamloops, which has flights from Vancouver. You can also take a Greyhound bus to Kamloops from Seattle or you can drive.
